Access Statement

Overview

Plas Hafan Seaview Apartment is located within a row of Victorian town houses at No. 9 South Marine Terrace, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion SY23 1JX Wales. The apartment (no. 3) is on the second floor. There are no lifts but guests arriving at Plas Hafan on Mondays to Friday between the hours of 4.00pm and 6.00pm (3.00pm and 5.00pm Saturdays) are greeted on arrival and assistance can be provided with bags if required.  After 6.00pm (5.00pm Saturdays) and on Sundays guests are advised that a key will be left for them in the bottom key safe in the porch and the code to the safe is provided in the confirmation letter sent to guests prior to their arrival.  Guests are provided with 2 keys allowing for 24 hour access throughout the duration of their stay.

Situation

The apartment is situated on the seafront opposite South Beach and between the castle and the harbour.  It is a 5-10 minute walk into the main town.

Transport

Plas Hafan Seaview Apartment can be reached by car, bus or train.  The train and bus stations are adjacent to each other in Aberystwyth town centre and are approximately a 15 minute walk from the apartment.  There is a taxi rank beside the train station on Alexandra Road. 

Parking

There is free parking along both sides of the road outside the apartment.  There are disabled parking bays opposite for badge holders.  In close proximity there is a pay and display car parking area.

Entrance

At the front of the building there is a low slate-capped wall with a wide opening (no gate).  There is a straight ramped access into the building via an inward opening door into a small storm porch with automatic lighting.  There is straight and level access into the main building through an inward opening door.  There are no steps into the entrance hall.

The entrance hall provides access to 3 other apartments in the building.  It is over a metre wide and level with close-pile carpeting.  On the left hand side hallway, approximately 2 metres from the entrance, there is a cupboard (98cm high and approximately 205cm long) and the hallway narrows here but it is still over a metre wide.

There is good lighting in the entrance hallway, stairways and landings, which is timed and operated by push-button switches at an approximate height of 108cm.

Corridors and stairs are wide and with good colour contrast.

Lifts

Plas Hafan Seaview Apartment is on the second floor of the building.  There are no lifts but guests are greeted on arrival at Plas Hafan (between the hours of 4.00pm and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday) and assistance can be provided with bags if required. 

Access to the apartment is via the carpeted stairway rising from the main entrance hall.  There is a banister handrail on the right hand side (when going up).  The steps are approximately 90cm wide, 19cm high and 25cm deep.  There are 15 or 16 steps up to each upper floor.

Safety

The building is fitted with fire alarms.  The fire alarms are audible.  If guests require an alternative alert and / or assistance in case of evacuation, we would be happy to discuss individual requirements at the time of booking.  Smoke alarms are fitted in the corridors, living room and both bedrooms.

Apartment overview

Each apartment has a key-operated, inward-opening front door leading to an entrance lobby.  The apartment has 2 bedrooms, a separate living room, a kitchen / dining room, and a bathroom with a shower (no bath).  There are 4 internal steps within the apartment. 

All internal room doors open inwards with lever action handles. 

The apartment is centrally heated with a programmable boiler providing 24 hour hot water. 

There is good, even, overhead lighting throughout the apartment with additional side lights in the living room and both bedrooms.

The hallway, bedrooms and living room have close-pile carpeting.

All doors are over 800mm wide with the exception of the bathroom door and cupboard door.

Bedrooms

There is one double bedroom and one bedroom with zip and link single beds which can convert to a 6ft superking bed.  Both bedrooms have wardrobe space with ample wooden coat hangers.  There are two bedside tables in each bedroom.  Both bedrooms are equipped with a DAB radio alarm clock and touch-activated bedside lights.

Living room

The room is equipped with a modern widescreen HD Teletext TV (with Freeview HD), Blu-Ray DVD player and mini Hi-fi (IPOD Dock, CD Player, DAB Radio and MP3 / USB / Headphone sockets) all of which can be operated by remote control.

Free WiFi internet access is provided for guest’s recreational or business use.

There is an electric fire in the living room which can also be operated by a remote control.

There is no public telephone in the apartment but there is good mobile network coverage.

An information pack is provided within the apartment.  This provides details regarding the apartment (heating, hot water, appliances), local essential services (health, police, fire and rescue etc), facilities in Aberystwyth (shopping, restaurants and bars, banks, toilets, public transport) and opportunities further afield. 

Kitchen  

The kitchen has vinyl flooring. Kitchen units and the sink, washing machine, dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge and freezer are a standard base level height.  The kettle and microwave oven are located on top of the base units.  There are units at standard eye-level which contain crockery and glassware.  However, if required, most items can be moved to the most easily accessible units.

A welcome pack is provided for guests on arrival which includes milk, bread, butter, conserves, tea, coffee, eggs and cereals. There is no bar or restaurant within the apartment but the information pack offers suggestions for local bars, restaurants and cafes within a 10 minute walk of the apartment.

Bathroom

The bathroom is bright and well-lit with low-slip ceramic floor tiles.  The bathroom has a large walk-in shower enclosure (no bath) with centre sliding doors.  The toilet and washbasin are at standard height.  There are no grab rails in the bathroom.
